Students in Sydney's west will be joined by a furry friend to help with return to school anxiety.
Yale, a guide dog Labrador, has been trained as a wellbeing dog and is the newest employee at Trinity Catholic Primary School in Kemps Creek.
The therapy dog was brought in to help ease students and teachers back into the new term.
It's hoped Yale will help relieve any nerves after the past two years of disrupted schooling due to COVID-19.
"We decided to get a dog as part of one of the strategies in our return to school after COVID-19," Principal Cathy Hey said.
"We thought it would be really good for the students wellbeing and staff wellbeing in terms of improving attendance and in terms of making people feel good about being at school."
Yale will be used as part of a "reward system" where students will be able to opt to spend time with him if they're achieving their goals.
Students at the school are already ecstatic about the new employee.
"It's very exciting," one student told 9News.
He will live with one of the teachers but will be brought into school every day to act as a calming influence on students.

Week 8 wrap up! What a wonderful and busy week we've had! Students have been working so hard and showing such great effort across all areas of their learning—we’re so proud of them! 📝 In writing, students have been building their confidence by planning and creating thoughtful pieces. ✝️ In religion, students spent time attending private Reconciliation with Father Peter. Students also reflected on their scripture through artworks. ➕ In Math, the focus was on mass. Students have been practicing their skills with hands-on activities and games. They're showing fantastic progress! 😀 Happy Hour- Student enjoyed the sunshine with Mr Crawford as they shared all their hard learning. 💛 For R U OK? Day, we took time to talk about looking out for one another and the importance of checking in with our friends and loved ones. The students showed great maturity and care as they reflected on how we can support each other with kindness and listening ears. 🏉 In sport, we had lots of fun playing touch football! Father's Day Celebrations This morning our school community came together to celebrate Father’s Day with a heart-warming event. The day started with a delicious BBQ breakfast, where fathers, grandfathers, and father figures enjoyed good food and great company. It was a joyful time filled with laughter, conversations, and the simple pleasure of sharing a meal together. Following breakfast, everyone gathered in the hall for a beautiful liturgy. The liturgy was a meaningful moment to reflect on the important role fathers play in our lives. Students and staff participated with heartfelt prayers and songs, creating a warm and respectful atmosphere. The Father’s Day celebration was a wonderful opportunity to honour and appreciate the dads in our school community. Prayer of Thanksgiving for Gregory B. Whitby AM KSG We are deeply saddened by the passing of Greg Whitby AM KSG, former Executive Director of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Parramatta. Greg was Executive Director from 2006 to 2022 and he led with dedication to the young people of schools in the diocese. Greg was also a former Principal of Emmaus Catholic College Kemps Creek. His legacy of leadership, advocacy, and inspiration lives on in the countless educators and students he impacted. We give thanks for Greg’s remarkable life and service.
